Social justice advocate to cycle 900 kms to raise funds for Section 27
Social justice advocate Mark Heywood will set off on a 900 kilometre mountain bike race from Johannesburg to the Indian Ocean on the Kwa-Zulu Natal coast on Friday.
Heywood will use the Joberg2C mountain bike race in an effort to raise money for Section 27.
He dismissed accusations that Section 27 or other NGOs are funded by sinister interest groups to cause turbulence in South Africa.
That accusation is completely untrue. We publish our donors on our website and are completely transparent.— Mark Heywood, Executive Director of Section 27
He says despite the invaluable work done by social justice groups, they continue to battle with donors and investment each year.
Heywood explained the important role played by organisations such as Section 27 in bettering democracy and how South Africans can help.
The serious reality is that organisations Section 27 battle to keep going and to persuade donors to invest.— Mark Heywood, Executive Director of Section 27
If you and I value this democracy and Constitution, then we would be prepared to invest in it. That's the message of this bike race.— Mark Heywood, Executive Director of Section 27
