They Sold Us Dreams: Mzansi's Youth Tell their Stories
Millennials – the age group of people who were born between the late 1980s and early 1990s – get a lot of flak for all kinds of things. Everyone seems to know what they are doing wrong, or what they should be doing better.
Life is rough! Millennials have a unique term for it – “adulting”. This June, social change NGO Heartlines wants to hear the honest, raw, unfiltered side of their adulting stories. As part of their What’s Your Story? campaign, Heartlines is running a storytelling competition for the month of June, where young adults between the ages of 19 and 30 can win prizes for simply sharing what it is like being young in Mzansi. These stories will not only give a glimpse into the challenges faced by millennial youths, they will also give a glimpse into what the future looks like.
Stories can be submitted in audio, video or written format on whatsyourstory.org.za or via WhatsApp on 081 726 2857. Prizes are also on offer, including data bundles and a one-month work experience at Heartlines. Terms and conditions can be found on the site.
