[LISTEN] UCT student makes custom garments for disadvantaged matric girls

Written by: Bontle Ndlovu

Kudzai Zinyengere is a final year UCT student, young designer and founder of MINEstitched which stands for Memories Indescribable Now Eloquently stitched.

This passionate, young designer is interested in assisting young girls who can’t afford to buy glamorous garments and items for their matric dance.

Zinyengere says that she wanted to do something more than make cloths and money.

In my final year, my mother was sick and she couldn’t really help me prepare for the dance.

I found myself asking, ‘What can I do? How do I get things done?

I was lost and didn’t have anyone to help me.

Kudzai Zinyengere, founder of MINEstitched

Zinyengere says that she started MINEstitched in her first year of Varsity.

I started my fashion line because I wanted to pay homage to my mother who passed away in 2013 she says.

Everything changed after she passed. This was a way to share my life with her and my memories.
