[LISTEN] COVID-19: Here is what the Red Cross is doing to assist South Africa

The Red Cross is working with state governments, thousands of volunteers across the country, and millions across the world to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To find out what this work entails and what the organisation is doing in South Africa, Azania spoke head of the Southern African Cluster of the International Federation of the Red Cross Dr Michael Charles.

Specifically for Covid you will see that it has reached over 184 countries globally. The Red Cross movement, we are in 192 countries.

In all these countries where there is Covid, the Red Cross is present, working side by side with government and really trying to exercise its auxiliary role, working at a community level and doing things like contact tracing, screening, providing psycho-social support just to name a few.

For South Africa, specifically, it was really good when the minister requested specifically for the Red Cross to do contact tracing in Bloemfontein but also in all the parts of the country.
