Tracey Lange's #WCW: Mara Glennie, Founder of TEARS Foundation for GBV victims

Written by: Ayesha Yon

Every Wednesday on her mid-morning show, Tracey Lange interviews her Woman Crush Wednesday #WCW.

Tracey Lange speaks to Mara Glennie, a GBV assault survivor who gave up her corporate job to dedicate her professional career to ending sexual violence by founding the TEARS Foundation.

I was standing in the police station crying and I said, "where can I go?," and they said I don't know...

When I got well, I decided if I could possibly do anything about it, I would make sure it didn't happen again.

TEARS Foundation provides access to crisis intervention, advocacy, counselling, and prevention education services for those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and child sexual abuse.

Their services are confidential and are provided to all victims at no charge.

The very first service I developed was called, "Help at your fingertips". If you dial our number, our free call number on your phone 1347355# and follow the prompts, it's a prompt base service so you don't have to use your voice and it will give you the nearest place that you can go to for assistance.

Two years ago, I added another service to it where you can call for emergency help. So, if you are in a life-threatening situation and you call that number, 1347355#, someone will phone you back within seconds and find out if you need emergency assistance.
