Minister Zulu calls for NGOs to collaborate with government for hunger relief

Written by: Elizabeth Kgabane

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu is appealing to non-profit organisations (NGOs) to pursue a coordinated approach with her department for food donations.

Zulu revealed the Department’s hunger relief plans and said a collaborated effort with her department would make the food parcel distribution easier.

The minister confirmed that charities could aid with food donations during the lockdown but that she would prefer they did so with her department.

As you distribute the food, be sensitive, and not end up with food going to the same places. Be sensitive that there are far-flung areas, please work with us.

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu

These hunger relief efforts follow as some have suffered job losses and pay cuts as a result of lockdown effects.

Zulu said the distribution of food parcels had run smoothly so far in all nine provinces.
